Game 1, July 12- The 13 year old All Stars won their first game at Centreville High School. They defeated Falls Church-Annandale 11-2. J.D. Polcari pitched 6 strong innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 12. John Stone had a good inning in relief to finish the seventh. Offensively everyone contributed led by 2 hits apiece from Kevin League and J.D. Polcari.

Game 2, July 15 The 13 year olds won their second game of the tournament over Greater Fairfax, 7-5.

Game 3, July 15 The 13 year olds won their third game of the tournament over Greater Fairfax, 7-3. With this win Springfield secured the District VI championship.

Results of the 13 year Old State Tournament

Final Game - The Prep team lost Sunday to Varina (Richmond) 6 - 2. They jumped out to an early 2-1 lead but later in the game Varina came back to lead 5-2. Springfield had an opportunity to close the gap with runners on 2nd and 3rd, but couldn't get the timely hit. Althought Springfield hit the ball well, too often it was right at a fielder. Varina added an insurance run in the 6th.

The Prep team acquitted themselves well but unfortunately this was their second loss which eliminated them from the State Tournament.

Congratulations to the players and coaches of the 13 year old All-Star team for winning the District VI Championship and for their excellent showing in the State Tournament.

Results of the International/Alliance District VI Tournament

Double Header with Falls Church/Annandale, July 8
The Springfield International Allstars split their first double header of the tournament with the Falls Church-Annandale Allstars on Monday night.
Game 1-Falls Church/Annandale rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Springfield 6-5. FC/A used timely hitting, a pair of walks, and a Springfield error to earn the win. Eric Yellman started for Springfield and pitched five shut-out innings. Unfortunately, the offense was unable to support a fine pitching effort. Springfield scored two runs in the top of the sixth, which FC/A matched in the bottom of the inning. Springfield rallied again to take a 5-2 lead in top of the seventh with solid bunting from Mark Dougherty and Alex Anastasia. David Glass drove a ball to the fence for two rbi's, but it wasn't enough.
Game 2-Springfield shook off the earlier loss and played a solid game to defeat Falls Church/Annandale 9-5. Andrew Kim provided a two rbi double and Scott Bolling broke the game open with a bases loaded triple to lead the Springfield offense. David Glass gave up one run in five innings of relief to pick up the win for Springfield. Jarad Kopf finished with two innings of relief to get the save.

Double Header with Greater Fairfax, July 11
The Springfield International All-Stars split their second double header of the tournament with the Fairfax All-Stars on Thursday.
Game 1- Needing a win to stay alive in the Alliance Tournament, Springfield used timely hitting and solid pitching to defeat Greater Fairfax 10-5. The big blow for Springfield was Scott Bolling's bases loaded triple. Springfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Fairfax chipped away and tied it at three after two innings. At that point, Eric Yellman relieved Matt Gregg and shut down Greater Fairfax for the next four innings. Yellman earned the win for Springfield. While Yellman was holding Fairfax in check, the top of the Springfield line-up was busy. Alex Anastasia, Andrew Kim, Jarad Kopf, David Glass, Yellman, Michael Boulter, and Bolling all contriubuted hits and scored runs for Springfield. In the seventh inning, Fairfax rallied to score twice, but John Paterno closed the door by getting the final two outs on a double play.
Game 2- In the championship game of the District VI Alliance Tournament, Greater Fairfax used big bats and strong pitching to defeat Springfield 12-5. Springfield got off to a quick start taking a 2-0 lead in support of starting pitcher David Glass. However, Greater Fairfax slowly chipped away and took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Springfield rallied to tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth, but ran out of gas afterward. Alex Anastasia and Andrew Kim led to the Springfield offense with two runs scored each.

The Springfield Alliance All-Stars finished in second place in the Alliance Tourrnament with at 2-2 record.

Congratulations to the players and coaches of the International All-Star team for their fine post season play.
