2003 District Tournaments
16-19 All-Star Team: District VI Champions
We extend our congratulations to the 16-19 year old all-stars for winning the District VI tournament. They defeated Greater Fairfax and Falls Church/ Annandale twice to capture the District Title. We thank Alan Little, his coaching staff, the players and their parents for the effort they extended that led to the District Championship. Good Luck in the State Tournament.
16-19 All-Star Team: Results in the State Tournament
The 16-19 all-star team won their first game in the state tournament against Fauquier on Thursday, July 17. They were down 4-0 through 3 innings before scoring 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 6 in the 6th after two were out. They won 9-5. Tray Jordan pitched the complete game victory. He was backed up by excellent hitting and defense. Springfield lost their second game to Northern Fairfax, 14-3. They went into the loser bracket where they won 8-6 against Loudoun. They then played Fauquier again and lost 10-0. Their record for the State Tournament was 2-2 which they should be congratulated for. We thank Alan Little, his coaching staff, the players and their parents for the District championship and an excellent showing in the state tournament.
Prep All-Star Team: Results in the District Tournament
We extend our congratulations to the Prep all-star team for their fine showing in the District tournament. They were 2 and 2 in the tournament, coming within one win of the championship game. We thank, Gene Pannell, his coaching staff, the players and their parents for the hard work they put into the post season practices and games.
13-15 All-Star Team: Results in the District Tournament
We extend our congratulations to the 13-15 all-star team for their excellent play in the District tournament. They compiled a record of 3 and 2 in the tournament and made it to the first championship game where they lost to Falls Church. We thank, Ed Flores, his coaching staff, the players and their parents for the hard work they put into the post season practices and games.
16 All-Star Team: Results in the State Tournament
The 16 year old all-stars played hard against Augusta on Friday, July 18 in the opening round of the state tournament held at Lake Braddock High School. They spotted Augusta to 3 runs in the second, but fought back to tie it in the 6th at 5-5. They ultimately lost it in the bottom of the 7th, 6-5. In the final game for Sprinfield, they played Fauquier. There they ran into a fabulous pitcher who struck out 16 of 18 batters in 6 innings. Never the less, Springfield was tied after 5 innings 1-1 before Fauquier pulled away. In both of these games, Springfield should be contratulated in playing well against the best teams in the state. It is important to note, now that the tournament is over, that Springfield gave Augusta, the eventual state champion, their best competition of the tournament. Augusta won their other games by scores of 10-7 against Richmond and beat Brunswick by scores of 6-1 and 10-0. We thank Tom Ravellette, his coaches, the players and parents for a fine showing in the state tournament.
