Hotlines for Fields

The hotline for county fields is (703) 324-5264. This line will provide closure information for all county fields such as Hooes Road Park. They post closures by 3 PM. We try to post additional information on the Springfield Babe Ruth hotline, (703) 451-5615.

Umpires

This year Springfield Babe Ruth will again work to get more adult umpires to do the 13-15 year old group. We are offering rates competitive with other umpire organizations in the area.

We are taking names now for youngsters 15 and up to umpire games. This is a great opportunity to earn some spending money in a sport they love.

Contact our Umpire Coordinator if you are interested in umpiring in the spring.

More information is available on the Umpire Training Page.

Fall Baseball

In 2007 Springfield Babe Ruth spearheaded the formation of the Babe Ruth Fall Baseball League. It was a very successful first year for the league. It is a Northern Virginia wide league that included teams from McLean, Falls Church Annandale, Greater Fairfax, Northern Fairfax, Greater Loudoun and Easter Loudoun. There were 33 teams in three age categories which included 10, 13 year old transition teams. We look forward to an even better season each year. We will be getting the notifications of registrations out at Spring signup and again near the end of the spring season.

This league is open to teams from all leagues in Northern Virginia, including non-Babe Ruth Leagues. The individual leagues form the teams and submit them to us for scheduling. We charter the teams under Babe Ruth for insurance purposes, but this does not prevent teams from other leagues from registering with us.

There are no drafts for this league. We will structure divisions within each age category to maintain balanced competition.

See you next fall.

Babe Ruth Baseball vs. AAU Baseball

Parents with players emerging from Little League are confronted with a choice of playing Babe Ruth Baseball or playing AAU Baseball. We are often asked, what is the difference and which is best? Like most things there is no single answer for all players and all circumstances. It is certainly true that there are differences between the two and each has its advantages and disadvantages for each player. We offer here a letter provided by a long time coach for Springfield Babe Ruth that sheds some light on the issue.

SBRL needs Volunteers

SBRL cannot provide a quality program without volunteers to manage the league. We need volunteers to join the Board and help with the administration of the league. Although we have had several new members join the Board this year we are still in need of volunteers at several positions. The cost of providing Babe Ruth baseball to each player is much more than the registration fee. Hundreds of hours of volunteer time make it possible for your children to play baseball. The league needs your help. Please offer your help at registration or call 703-451-8325.
