Springfield
Babe Ruth League offers a premier opportunity for baseball players ages
13-19.
The league has been in
existence for more than 30 years. Last year the program consisted of about
300
players participating on about 30 teams. SBRL is part of District VI. The other leagues in the District are Falls Church-Annandale, Pioneer, and Greater Fairfax.
We have a separate Division exclusively for
13-year-olds. We believe that youngsters playing on the 90-foot diamond
for the first time should not be competing initially with older,
experienced players.
Our Babe Ruth program plays
its games on some of the Countys best baseball diamonds. Our primary
fields are the varsity fields at Lee, West Springfield, and Lake Braddock
High Schools, and South Run Park. Our 13-year-olds play most of their
games at South Run, which is easily accessible on the Fairfax Parkway. We
also play some of our games at Edison and Hayfield High Schools.
The strength of the SBRL
program is evident in the quality of its league play, its success in
post-season play, and in the number of players that become varsity players
at Lee, West Springfield, and Lake Braddock.
Traditionally, Springfield teams
show very well in District and State All-Star Tournaments.
Several years ago our 15-year-old all-star
team competed all the way to the World Series.
We are an established
league that has well trained managers and coaches (head coaches for Lee,
West Springfield, and Lake Braddock participate in our Spring clinic), a
dedicated Board of Directors, and playing facilities second to none in the
County. We are pleased that you have decided to help us continue the
strong traditions we have established.
